A Round Trip in Seven Prints
Open at the overnight low, 50 points down into 7650, 47 points back up to 7697, and all of it given back by lunch. Every turn was called by a print you already knew how to read: the trapped break, the last buyer (three times), the bottom rule, the fourth touch, the slow top. You spotted the +1,359 and the B-fade yourself. This is the day, print by print, with the rule each one proves.
Before the open
The map at 9:16
Thursday balanced 7676–7742 and settled 7706. Overnight balanced 7690–7712 until 4:30, then drove one-way to 7662 with no balance at the low — a single-print tail, which means speed, not location. Price opened below the 10-day balance low (7676) for the first time since Oct 16. VIX 20.04 and rising, CVD −4,700. The Dow was down 700.
| Level | What | Role for the day |
| ▲ | 7712–14 | ON high + Thu VAH | top of the overnight box |
| ▲ | 7696.25 | Thu VPOC, 10 wide | the magnet if the gap got bought — the day's high was 7697 |
| ▲ | 7676–85 | 10-day balance low · Thu low · Thu VAL | broken overnight → first resistance; reclaim it and the day flips |
| ● | 7662 | ON low, +493 absorber at 9:00 | where we stood |
| ▼ | 7650 | round number | first stop below — became the day's low, twice |
| ▼ | 7632 / 7623.75 | analog projection low · naked VAL 9/16 | the only references below the ON low |
The card had nothing under the ON low. On a gap-down the map must extend to the next naked level or B and D have no targets — fixed in the Oct 23 build.
Print 1 · 9:40
The trapped break — biggest reds at the low, nobody follows
9:40: −1,468 / −1,626 at 7654–57 — the largest reds of the day, printed at the low. The bar made no new low after them. +750 at 7660 two rows up. 9:55: +516 at 7663 — a higher low.
The D setup was written: close below 7661.75 on stacked reds, no answer, VIX rising. The 9:40 bar did exactly that and then stopped. Ask the three questions:
- Where? At the low of the drive, below the ON low, into air.
- What did price do next? Nothing lower. The next bar went up 15 points on +256/+331/+230.
- Did the other side answer? +750 at 7660, right above the reds, in the same bar.
Biggest sellers at the bottom with no follow-through is the last-buyer pattern upside down. It's the same tell as Thursday's +1,585 at the top, mirrored. The 9:40 low (7653.50) became the stop line for everything that followed.
What D needed
Reds and a next bar that makes a new low. The reds alone are not the trade.
What killed it
+750 absorbed the −1,626, and bar two went 15 points the other way. If you were short on the 9:40 close, the stop at 7667.75 was the right place — the trap pays the people who wait for the next bar.
Print 2 · 10:05
The last buyer — +1,238 at the known seller
10:05: +1,238 at 7670 — the biggest green of the day so far, at the level where −403 and −451 had just sold. Two ticks below it, −723. The bar closed near its low. 10:10: all reds. 10:15: new low 7650.
The CVD tell under the second low: price 7650 is lower than 7654, CVD −7,500 is higher than −9,000. Fewer aggressive sellers at the new low. Not a long signal with VIX rising — a reason not to chase shorts there.
You've seen this four times in two days now, so the checklist is short: biggest green at a known seller's level · less than 3 points of progress · answered by a bigger red within two ticks. +1,238 → −723 is a weaker answer than Thursday's (58%, not over 100%), but the next bar had not one green print. Short the 10:05 close, ~7666, stop 7673; it gave 16 points in ten minutes.
A big green that prints where sellers just were is a question, not an answer. The next bar decides. Thursday: +1,585 → −1,166. Friday: +1,238 → −723, then +834 → −1,559, then +416 → −1,146.
Print 3 · 10:25–10:30
The bottom rule, all four boxes ticked
10:25: −506 at 7655.50, low 7650 — an equal low, not a lower one. 10:30: +606 / +536 at 7663–65, close above 7661.75. 10:35: +576 holds. 10:40: +1,195 with 5 points of progress above it.
The bottom rule is fast because it's a checklist, not a judgment:
- Big red at the low fails — −506 at 7655.50, and the low stayed 7650. Equal low ≠ lower low. (The Wednesday lesson.)
- Green ≥ +500 answers — +606 and +536, two rows apart, the next bar.
- Double bottom / higher low — 7650 and 7650.
- Close back above the broken edge — 7661.75 (the ON low), on the 10:30 close ~7665.
Buy that close, stop 7647 (three under the low), first target the broken floor at 7676. The fail condition — new lows of 5+ points per bar on the greens — never came close.
Compare the 10:40 bar to the 10:05 bar: both have a +1,200 green. At 10:05 price moved under 3 points and a −723 answered. At 10:40 price moved 5 points above the +1,195 with no red bigger than −150 in the bar. Same size print, opposite meaning. Progress is the question that separates them.
Print 4 · 10:45
The fourth touch — the lid is consumed
10:45: all greens, +448 / +302, through 7674.50. 10:50: straight through the 7676–85 stack. 11:00: −815 at 7687.50 — the first big red of the rally, answered below by +303 (less than half). Price still made 7692 after it: absorbed, for now.
CVD −9,000 → −806 in 45 minutes. VIX 20.35 → 19.69 → 19.16. The referee switched sides at about 10:35.
7670–75 had been tested at 10:00 (+479/+593, rejected), 10:05 (the +1,238 trap), and 10:40 (+1,195). The third-touch rule says repeated tests consume the seller, and the greens were growing push by push — 606 → 576 → 1,195 — the opposite of the top rule's shrinking greens. With VIX falling under 19.5, the A trigger was: a new high above 7674.50 on greens, no −500 answer to the +1,195. It printed on the 10:45 bar. Buy the pullback to 7670–72, stop 7664.75, take a third at 7676–78 and a third at 7685. 7696.25 was the last target; the day's high was 7697.
The −815 at 11:00
First big red at a ★★ level (Thu VAL, top of the stack). Answer +303 — not half. Price made a marginal new high after it. That is the top rule's warning stage: not a short yet, but the clock starts.
Look-above-and-fail check
After a breakout on air the first pullback decides. The pullback to 7680–84 at 11:40 held (+1,363 at 7684.50) — the breakout was real for one more push.
Print 5 · 11:35–12:05
The slow top — you found the last big buyer yourself
11:35: −561 at 7691.50, the first big red at the high (7697). 11:45: +1,363 at 7684.50 holds the pullback. 11:55: +1,359 at 7690.50 — biggest green, right under the −561, high 7694 after it (lower than 7697). Then 348, 181, 15 … and the 12:05 bar closes below 7691.50.
"That 1359 buyer seems like was the last big buyer." Check it against the top rule, which is slow by design — 20 to 40 minutes:
- Warning — first big red at a ★★ level: −561 at 7691.50 (11:35), absorbed first as always.
- Lower high — 7694 against 7697.
- Greens shrinking push by push — 1,363 → 1,359 → 348 → 181.
- 5-min close below the first big red's price — the 12:05 close under 7691.50.
Short ~7688 on that close, stop 7694.75. The fail condition — a new high on a growing green — never came. Note what the +1,359 is not: it isn't answered by a bigger red in the next bar (the fast form). It's the last big buyer because the buyers after it get smaller and price can't make the high. Two forms, one pattern: a big green at a known seller's level that leads nowhere.
Print 6 · 12:40–1:10
The fast last buyer, then the push-through
12:40: +834 at 7684 — on the 11:45 buyer's level, now the retest. Progress: none. 12:50: −1,559 at 7686 and −960 at 7684.50 — the answer, next bar, bigger than the green. 1:10: −2,860 at 7670.50 with 5+ points of follow-through: push-through, not a trap.
The round trip. CVD +5,500 at noon, −2,488 by 1:35. VIX back above 20 at about 12:30.
This is the textbook version — the one to memorise: +834 at a known level, under 3 points of progress, −1,559 next bar. Short the 12:50 close ~7682, stop 7687.25. Then the −2,860 at 1:10 shows the other face of a big red: price fell 7 more points in the bar and kept going. That's question two again — more than 4 points of movement after the print means push-through; fade nothing.
Print 7 · 1:45–2:00
B on a small-green drift — called before it printed
1:45 +441, 1:50 +337, 1:55 +416 — medium greens, no sellers, lifting 7664 → 7672.75 into the −2,860 level. Then −1,146 at 7669.25, two ticks under the +416. 2:00: high 7669.50, no new high. +466 under the red is less than half of it.
At 1:36 the plan said: drift up into 7670–76, a red ≥ −300 prints, next bar makes no new high → sell the close. Every clause printed. Lower high (7672.75 vs 7676), −1,146 bigger than any green in the lift, next bar flat. Short ~7668.50, stop 7673.25, 7662 then 7654.
You didn't buy the drift — and that was the trade. Three medium greens in a row with no reds look like strength; on the footprint they're the absence of sellers, and the drift ends at the first real one. Being flat at 7672 on a VIX-20 Friday afternoon, green on the day, is the correct position.
The whole day
The referee called every half
| Time | VIX | Direction | What the tape did |
| 9:16–10:25 | 20.04 → 20.35 | rising | 7702 → 7650. Only D and B existed; the one long (bottom rule) was a scalp. |
| 10:35–12:00 | 20.35 → 19.16 | falling | 7650 → 7697. The A day. Shorts were scalps only. |
| 12:30–2:00 | 19.16 → 20.17 | rising | 7697 → 7663. Top rule, fast last buyer, push-through, B. |
The level of VIX said "hot regime, ranges double" and the day ran 47 points each way. The direction of VIX said which setups existed each hour. Neither replaced the prints; both told you which prints to wait for.
Rules proven Oct 23
What goes in the book
Oct 23
A break on the biggest reds that makes no further low is a trap, not D
Mirror of the last buyer. D needs the next bar to make a new low. The trap low is the stop line for the rest of the morning (7653.50 held all day).
Oct 23
Same-size green, opposite meaning: progress decides
+1,238 with under 3 points → last buyer. +1,195 with 5 points above it and no red over −150 → push-through. Never read the print without the bar's travel after it.
Oct 23
Equal low is the bottom rule's first box
−506 at 7655.50 and the low stayed 7650. The +606/+536 answer, double bottom and close above 7661.75 followed within five minutes. Confirmed again after the Wednesday miss.
Oct 23
Fourth touch with growing greens and VIX falling = take the breakout
7670–75: 10:00 reject, 10:05 trap, 10:40 push, 10:45 through. Greens 606 → 576 → 1,195. Trigger was the new high above the prior bar on greens with no −500 answer.
Oct 23
The last buyer has two forms
Fast: answered by a bigger red next bar (+834 → −1,559). Slow: not answered, but every green after it is smaller and the high isn't retaken (+1,359 → 348 → 181 → close below the first big red). Same entry logic, different clock.
Oct 23
CVD divergence at a new low is a don't-chase, not a buy
7650 on CVD −7,500 vs 7654 on −9,000. With VIX rising it means wait for the +500 answer, not front-run it. The answer came 15 minutes later.
Oct 23
Count the last buyer — Thu +1,585 / +625 / +1,848, Wed +694, Fri +1,238 / +834 / +416
Seven in three days, each at a known seller's level, each followed by at least 7 points down. It is the single most reliable print pattern in the book right now; keep counting until it fails.
